Recently a friend and I were chatting, through comments on Facebook (neither of us have had the time to meet up in over 18 months!) and it came up that Mum’s are never encouraged to put themselves first except…….
IN AN EMERGENCY!!!
Funny isn’t it? When you think about it though, this is exactly what happens, not necessarily on an airplane, but we keep on plodding away looking after everyone else’s needs, until we crash and burn!
It seems second nature to us to prioritise our Children, partners, family, job and friends, and literally not have 5 minutes to pee!
I speak from experience here, as a mum of 4 who has always worked, sometimes 2 jobs, by the time I have juggled all the daily chores, school runs, food, laundry and after school activities, found time to be referee, counsellor, nurse, hair dresser, stylist not to mention attempting to be a loving and attentive partner, and productive and valuable employee, it is safe to say I have run out of hours in that day. You then have the pleasure of falling into bed knowing you get to do it all again.
Then there is the guilt you feel for not being enough, not around enough for parents or friends, not fun enough, not relaxed enough or patient enough to enjoy what really matters.
But at the end of it all, what would really happen if we just stopped for 5 minutes, every day to take time out for ourselves??
That is the challenge. Short, sweet and simple. Take #5mins4mum, every day for 30 days.
I am going to share ideas, easy 5 minute pampers, food ideas, quiet reflections, things that don’t take time or money, things to help us take a timeout!
I hope that by making “me time” a habit, I might be a happier version of me, and that will make me a better, parent, partner, employee and friend. I want to share this with as many mum’s as possible!
Share it to all the mum’s you know, even your own! Commit to taking 5 minutes each day for 30 days and let’s put ourselves back on the priority list, before the worst happens xx
We are worth every second
